House of Blombos

My friend Carolina Bittencourt and I are very happy to launch our jewelry line House of Blombos and to be able to work with what has long been a passion for both of us.

We aim to create pieces that are fun and young while adding interest and color to a look. We design using a mix of materials while always making sure that everything is high quality and durable. We are proud to only use natural stones like turquoise, onyx, malachite and ruby.

Also, is nice to remember that 15% of all our sales are donated to LakayPam, an organization that does a beautiful job at helping over 500 kids is Haiti.

The prices range from $38 to $160 and our pieces can be bought at our House of Blombos shop on Etsy

The gift of friendship.

Little bracelets like these are a great gift idea. They add a touch of sparkle and also work as friendship bracelets, which at this time of the year when we have so many gifts to give, is like killing two birds (or more) with one stone. They are lovely, simple and mostly affordable gifts to those ones that are always there for you.
This one is from my favourite local shop, Honey & Hazel, here in Williamsburg. Their packaging is very organic and friendly to the environment.

The bracelet of the moment.

I often choose a piece and wear it everyday until I can no longer bear the look of it. Somehow, I doubt that this will happen with my favorite piece of the moment. I'm probably getting repetitive, but I'm still in love with J. Crew and this bracelet is GORGEOUS.

Miss Brazil 2011

Last night, a new Miss Brazil was crowned. Representing the state of Rio Grande do Sul, the 25 years old Priscila Machado, received from the hands of Miss Brazil 2010 the crown representing the title. The jewel is a stunning piece designed and made by Miss Brazil 1995 Renata Bessa. Renata is now a respected jewelry designer.

Wearing expensive jewelry is not for everyone. Very lucky are the women that can afford it, but the women that can't shouldn't be left out. One of the most talented jewelry designers I can think of is Alexis Bittar. His eclectic style and ideas are brilliantly executed and the results are always powerful and interesting pieces. When I'm on fashion shoots I always check the jewelry that is being used by the stylists, which is also a great way of discovering new designers ( stylists know everything!).  For the Crystal Jin Swimwear shoot I got to wear this gorgeous faceted hydro quartz stone ring. Beautiful Olivia Redmond is wearing her favorite pieces here. The small blue ring is a lapis lazuli and turquoise ring from Egypt, the big blue ring is from Portobello Road in London and is also lapis lazuli. The red ring is made of coral and silver, Olivia got it in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
